Roofing & Hail Damage

Updated August 26, 2026

Prepare for roof inspection, replacement and hail-related decisions.

Document first, decide carefully

After hail or wind, photograph conditions from a safe location and note the event date. Do not climb onto a wet, icy or damaged roof. An inspection should distinguish cosmetic marks, functional damage, active leaks and unrelated wear.

Compare the complete scope

  • Measured area, pitch, layers and access.
  • Roofing system, underlayment, flashing and ventilation.
  • Decking allowances, permits, disposal and cleanup.
  • Workmanship and manufacturer warranty conditions.

Insurance is a separate decision

A contractor estimate and an insurer’s coverage decision serve different purposes. Read the policy and deductible, keep records and ask the insurer or a qualified adviser about unclear terms. This site does not determine coverage or claim value.
