How We Review Providers

Updated August 26, 2026

Understand our provider review and disclosure standards.

A repeatable review framework

This framework explains information to examine when evaluating a home-service provider. A review reflects information available at a point in time and cannot guarantee future conduct or quality.

Information to examine

  1. Identity and service area: business name, contact details and locations served.
  2. Credentials: requirements for the trade and jurisdiction, checked with the responsible official source.
  3. Insurance: current documentation and issuer confirmation when material.
  4. Scope and terms: estimate, exclusions, payment, permits, changes and warranties.
  5. Disclosure: advertising, referral or affiliate relationships.

Limits and red flags

Records and supplied documents can be incomplete, delayed or changed. Pause for pressure to pay immediately, refusal to document identity or scope, unexplained omission of safety or permit work, or guaranteed insurance claims. Homeowners must still assess the final proposal and contract.
